The reappointment came just a few days after Kagame was sworn in for a new five-year term last Sunday. This decision might signal continuity in Kagame's administration as he begins his latest term in office.
Rwanda's President
Paul Kagame reappointed economist Edouard Ngirente as prime minister on Tuesday.
"Deeply humbled and honored to be reappointed as Prime Minister. Thank you, Your Excellency Paul Kagame, for this immense privilege. I commit to continue serving our Country under your leadership and anticipate our journey to elevate Rwanda to even greater heights," the PM wrote on X.
Ngirente was first appointed to the position in August 2017.
Before his initial role as
prime minister, he served as a senior advisor to the executive director responsible for African countries at the
World Bank Group in Washington, DC. Earlier in his career, he held several positions within Rwanda’s Finance Ministry.
Ngirente, aged 51, possesses a PhD in
Agricultural Economics from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
He is expected to help the president form a new cabinet in the coming days.
