CAIRO (Sputnik) - At least 68 people have died due to heavy rains and floods in Sudan this year, Sudanese Interior Minister Khalil Pasha Sairin said.
"The death toll from floods and rains has reached 68," the minister was quoted as saying by the Sudan News Agency on Tuesday.
He added that the victims died from various causes, including house collapses and drowning.
The minister also noted that due to the current rainy season and floods in the country, 130 people were injured and more than 4,000 houses were completely destroyed.
The season of heavy rains in Sudan begins in June almost every year and lasts until October.
