Sudan's discussions with the US in Jeddah concluded without a consensus regarding Sudan's participation in the forthcoming peace negotiations in Switzerland, which are scheduled to take place on August 14.The final decision was left to the leadership, as the Minister of Minerals, Mohamed Basheer Abunommo, the head of Sudan's delegation, recommended not participating in the Geneva discussions.The Jeddah consultations were initiated by a telephone conversation between Sudanese Sovereign Council chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.Disagreements between the head of the RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the chairman of the country's Sovereign Council and army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, resulted in the situation in the North African country escalating. The primary discrepancies between them pertain to the formation of unified armed forces and the designation of the commander-in-chief.The RSF and the army began fighting in Merowe and Khartoum cities in mid-April 2023, which rapidly disseminated to other regions of Sudan. Almost 18,800 people have been killed and nearly 10 million have been displaced since the beginning of the conflict, according to UN figures.In 2023, the contending parties conducted a series of consultations in Jeddah; however, the negotiations did not result in a ceasefire.

Sudan's discussions with the US in Jeddah concluded without a consensus regarding Sudan's participation in the forthcoming peace negotiations in Switzerland, which are scheduled to take place on August 14.
The final decision was left to the leadership, as the Minister of Minerals, Mohamed Basheer Abunommo, the head of
Sudan's delegation, recommended not participating in the Geneva discussions.
"The matter is ultimately left to the leadership's decision and its assessments, and there are certainly many details that led us to take this decision to end the consultative dialogue without an agreement," he said.
