Ukraine Lost Up to 230 Troops, 7 Tanks in Russia's Kursk Region Over 24 Hours, Defense Ministry Says
17:31 11.08.2024 (Updated: 13:29 12.08.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Tuesday, the MoD said that Ukrainian forces had launched an offensive to seize territory in the Kursk region in western Russia. On Wednesday, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said Russia’s air, missile, and artillery strikes had prevented about 1,000 Ukrainian troops from advancing deep into Russian territory.
The Ukrainian armed forces lost up to 230 servicemen and 38 armored vehicles, including
seven tanks, over the past 24 hours in an attempt to invade the western Russian region of Kursk, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
"In the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian armed forces lost 230 servicepeople and 38 armored vehicles, including seven tanks, three Stryker armored personnel carriers, an infantry fighting vehicle, and 28 armored combat vehicles," the ministry said.
Kiev also lost seven vehicles, four field artillery systems, a Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile system, three launchers, and an AN/MPQ-65 radar station of the Patriot
air defense system, the ministry estimated.
Russian forces prevented Ukrainian troops from pushing into the Belovsky district of the Kursk region.
"Army aviation destroyed two tanks, an armored fighting vehicle, a field artillery gun and two ammunition vehicles in the Ozerki and Ivanovsky villages," the ministry said.
The Russian army foiled attempts by Ukrainian mobile groups to use armored vehicles to push deep into the
Kursk region.
"Four armored personnel carriers were destroyed, including three US-made Stryker APCs, seven armored fighting vehicles, and two vehicles," the ministry said.
In total, Kiev lost up to 1,350 servicemen, 29 tanks, 23 armored personnel carriers, and miscellaneous other pieces of military hardware and artillery systems in the offensive against the Kursk region, the Russian ministry concluded.
