During a three-day visit to Zambia, at the invitation of his counterpart Hakainde Hichilema, Burundi's President Evariste Ndayishimiye emphasized the need for regional collaboration to restore peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), particularly in light of the resurgence of the M23 rebel group in the eastern region.Ndayishimiye highlighted Burundi's geographic location, bordering both Tanzania and the DRC, making it an integral part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).The leader also praised the collaboration between Burundi and Zambia in promoting stability in the DR Congo.In a gesture of solidarity, President Ndayishimiye announced a donation of 5,000 tonnes of rice, beans, and maize to Zambia, which is currently facing a severe drought.

Last month, Southern African officials gathered in Zambia to discuss regional conflict resolution, with a focus on Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).
During a three-day visit to Zambia, at the invitation of his counterpart Hakainde Hichilema, Burundi's President Evariste Ndayishimiye emphasized the need for
regional collaboration to restore peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), particularly in light of the resurgence of the M23 rebel group in the eastern region.
"I am particularly concerned about the resurgence of M23 rebels in eastern DR Congo," President Ndayishimiye told Zambia's parliament on Friday.
Ndayishimiye highlighted Burundi's geographic location, bordering both Tanzania and the DRC, making it an integral part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
"Burundi is eager to be a member of SADC so that we can contribute to regional peace efforts and address risks such as terrorism, illicit trafficking of arms, and the increasing number of refugees," he said.
The leader also praised the collaboration between Burundi and Zambia in promoting
stability in the DR Congo.
