The article, published on Monday by a team of researchers from the NN Vorozhtsov Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry and the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine in Novosibirsk, said that the "hit compound," soloxolone para-methylanilide (Compound 7), was able to suppress cell change and prevent tumor cells from invading healthy tissues. Glioblastoma multiform is the most common and malignant brain tumor. Despite significant advances in surgical, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy treatments, the life expectancy of glioblastoma patients after a full course of therapy averages 15 months. The data obtained by the Novosibirsk scientists can be used to develop new antitumor agents capable of blocking the growth and recurrence of glioblastoma, as well as increasing its sensitivity to chemo preventive drugs, the study read.

Russian Scientists Develop Compound Able to Suppress Brain Tumor Growth, Study Reveals
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian scientists have developed a compound that is potentially capable of inhibiting the growth of glioblastomas, the most aggressive type of brain tumor, a study published in the Frontiers in Pharmacology journal shows.
"Our study demonstrated that soloxolone para-methylanilide compound effectively inhibited the viability, invasiveness, and stemness of glioblastoma cells... These effects make 7 a potential candidate for inclusion in combination treatment regimens for glioblastoma," the study read.
