A roundtable on "Prospects for BRICS Cooperation in the Study, Development, and Sustainable Use of Mineral Resources" was held in Moscow on July 15-17.
South Africa and Russia enjoy an "extremely valuable relationship" in geological exploration, Mosa Mabuza, CEO of the South Africa Council for Geoscience (CGS), told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the BRICS Roundtable on Mineral Resource Cooperation held in Moscow this week.
He highlighted the active collaboration between CGS and the Russian geological company RosGeo, emphasizing the recent analysis of samples from a promising, yet undisclosed, area in
South Africa.
"The results came very positive," he stated, hinting at the potential unveiling of "two fantastic areas of opportunity that are going to emerge solely as a result of the relationship that we have."
This successful partnership, he explained, exemplifies the mutually beneficial nature of the relationship between the geoscience sectors of the two nations. Mabuza expressed his strong support for the autonomy of nations in determining their collaborative efforts.
"Parties in the relationship must have the liberty to determine the nature and character of their relationship and the programs they wish to implement," the South African official stressed.
