The transatlantic slave trade forcibly displaced millions of Africans, shaping the diaspora and global perceptions of Africa. Today, the global Africa concept aims to reconnect the continent with its diaspora, fostering unity, cultural exchange, and economic collaboration to overcome past legacies and build a prosperous future.
The shared heritage of the transatlantic slave trade has left individuals of African descent deeply connected to Africa, Eric McLaren Phillips, chairperson of the Guyana Reparations Committee, and Vice Chair of the CARICOM Reparations Commission told Sputnik Africa. The Guyanese born American further explains that this connection is evident in the cultural, economic, spiritual, and identity bonds that persist among these communities. To find out what else our guest had to say, tune in to the Global South Pole podcast, brought to you by Sputnik Africa. In addition to the website, you can also catch our episodes on Telegram.► You can also listen to our podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, Castbox, Pocket Casts, Afripods, Podcast Addict, and Overcast.► Check out all the episodes of Global South Pole.

From Displacement to Diaspora: Transatlantic Slave Trade & Rise of Global Africa
11:24 16.07.2024 (Updated: 15:57 07.08.2024) The transatlantic slave trade forcibly displaced millions of Africans, shaping the diaspora and global perceptions of Africa.
“We do have common interests. We do have common goals. And if you look at trends in the world, there is a global India under the disguise of the name Gopio. There's a global China, and so it makes sense there is a global Africa because of all the commonalities of the past and all the shared interests of the future,” Phillips adds.
