The 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum takes place in St. Petersburg on July 11-12. The event brings together legislators from BRICS member states to share their experiences and strengthen mutual cooperation.
BRICS countries can not only boost trade within the bloc but also gradually move towards introducing a system without "relying on the SWIFT system and having to rely on, for instance, the dollar," Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo, South Africa's National Assembly Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation told Sputnik.
"Russia has made, through their speakers here, a very important proposal [...] that technology must be used to make sure that, as the BRICS countries, we are able to enhance trade among ourselves but also to force the world to trade with us using the new system that will be introduced in future working together as BRICS countries," he said on the sidelines of the BRICS parliamentary forum.
He added that South Africa supports such a system.

"The most important thing for every country is to grow its economy. The BRICS countries are working together to make sure that as they grow their economies, they share knowledge, they share skills on how, for instance, to work on the minerals to make sure that there is [a benefit]," the lawmaker said, adding that "for instance, we are from Africa, so we are glad that this is going to take us forward not only as South Africa but as Africa."

Earlier, in his address to the forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that BRICS pays great attention to the share of national currencies in settlements between the countries.
