MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Around 190,000 Russian citizens have signed a contract with the defense ministry in 2024, while the average daily rate of recruitment to the joint grouping of troops is about 1,000 people, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday.
The Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman said that "this number may vary in one direction or the other."
"The average daily rate of recruitment remains stable and is around 1,000 people [...] Over this time [January-June], about 190,000 Russian citizens have signed contracts," Medvedev said.
He also expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers who decided to go to the zone of the special military operation and are now "confidently approaching victory," those who did it "out of a sense of duty, out of the call of the heart."
In mid-December, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that some 244,000 conscripts were deployed in the zone of the special military operation.
