The 2024 general election became a pivotal point in modern South African history, as the African National Congress won a plurality of seats in the country's parliament without winning an outright majority for the first time since the fall of apartheid in 1994.
Members of South Africa's Democratic Alliance (DA), formerly the main opposition party, will reportedly receive six of the country's 30 ministerial portfolios.
According to local media News24, representatives of the Democratic Alliance will become ministers of
Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development;
Basic Education;
Communications and Digital Technologies;
Environment, Forestry, and Fisheries;
Home Affairs;
Public Works and Infrastructure.

In addition, DA members will reportedly occupy six deputy ministerial positions, including the ministries of Finance and Trade, Industry and Competition, as well as the newly created Ministry of Energy and Electricity.
For its part, the African National Congress, which was the sole ruling party in 1994-2024, will have full control of the security bloc and the foreign ministry, as well as key economic ministries. In general, the new government will include 10 parliamentary parties, but only the ANC and the DA conducted negotiations on the distribution of ministerial posts, the portal reported.
