MONTEVIDEO (Sputnik) - The lawsuits filed by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange against Ecuador and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo remain in force despite the deal with the United States, Assange's lawyer, Carlos Poveda, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"Julian has unfinished business—not against him, but complaints that he initiated himself. For example, there is a lawsuit against Ecuador to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights for severe violation [of rights] for granting permission for Assange to leave the embassy. This topic is not resolved; it is the responsibility of the Ecuadorian State. In addition, there is a complaint against Mike Pompeo for espionage," the lawyer said.
Earlier on Wednesday, a US judge accepted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's plea deal after he pled guilty to one charge of conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified information relating to the national defense of the United States, the Western media reported.
The US will next take steps to immediately overturn the remaining charges against Assange in the Eastern District of Virginia, the report said.
