Sikasso is a region in southern Mali, bordered by Burkina Faso to the south and Ivory Coast to the west. The region's eponymous capital, which is the second-largest city in Mali. The region is home to several ethnic groups, including the Bambara, Minianka, Senoufo, and Fulani.
Several infrastructures were inaugurated, and a plan to combat food insecurity was launched during the historic visit of Mali's Transitional President Assimi Goita to the country's city of Sikasso.

"For the region, this visit marks the turn of the century," reported the presidency on social networks.

Goita laid the foundation stone for the Multi-purpose University, which will "change the future of higher education in the country." Ultimately, the institution will offer multiple courses of study to meet the needs of the national labor market and promote research and innovation.

The head of state inaugurated the renovated Babemba Traore Stadium. This sports facility now meets Confederation of African Football standards.
He officially launched an "ambitious plan to combat food insecurity." Measures include the distribution of feed for livestock, poultry, and fish, and the rehabilitation of degraded land and vegetable gardens.
He also inaugurated road infrastructure, namely an interchange and a viaduct, to help reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety in the city of Sikasso.
The leader shared a cohesion meal with the defense and security forces and met with the administrative and customary authorities of the region.
