The region's eponymous capital, which is the second-largest city in Mali. The region is home to several ethnic groups, including the Bambara, Minianka, Senoufo, and Fulani.
Several infrastructures were inaugurated, and a plan to combat food insecurity was launched during the historic visit of
Mali's Transitional President Assimi Goita to the country's city of Sikasso.
"For the region, this visit marks the turn of the century," reported the presidency on social networks.
