Hundreds of Burkinabes Gather to Denounce 'Waves of Disinformation & Propaganda'

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso - Sputnik Africa, 1920, 21.06.2024
In early May, a rally was held in the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou, in support of extending the rule of Burkina Faso's transitional government.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou, on June 20 to denounce "waves of disinformation and propaganda."
According to them, a wave of fake news has been circulating in recent days, particularly on social networks, with the aim of undermining their morale. The Burkinabe also wanted to reaffirm their commitment to the country's political transition, according to local media.
The demonstrators came to tell "all the enemies of Burkina Faso" that the head of state, Ibrahim Traoré, was doing well, contrary to the information disseminated by "the imperialist media."

Thousands Gather at Rally in Support of Burkina Faso's Transitional Government
This disinformation and propaganda are "manipulations to distract the transitional government and all the Burkinabe," Burkina 24 stated.
Previously, the French TV channel TV5 Monde-Afrique was halted from broadcasting in Burkina Faso for six months for spreading disinformation, according to the country's Supreme Council.
In late April, the channel was suspended for two weeks for broadcasting a Human Rights Watch report accusing the Burkinabe army of abuses against civilians.
