BAMAKO (Sputnik) - The seizure of Russian assets in the West does not comply with international law and will undermine confidence in global currencies and institutions, Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop told Sputnik.
Mali does not support any financial or economic sanctions; there are calls against unilateral restrictions, the minister said.
"The seizure of Russian assets does not comply with international law... this precedent is likely to undermine confidence in multilateral institutions and even internationally dominant currencies," Diop said.
The international financial system is built on trust, and it is better to avoid such measures in order not to further weaken the global economy, the minister added.
