The last time Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea was in 2000. This time he'll pay a two-day visit during which a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement might be signed, according to the president's Assistant for International Affairs, Yuri Ushakov.
The official welcoming ceremony for the Russian leader is scheduled for Wednesday, and the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is ready for a warm welcome, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
There are large portraits of Putin and the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un, on the central podium of the largest city square, Kim Il Sung. It is decorated with the national flags of the two countries. Other buildings on the square are also decorated with the Russian tricolor, the flags of the DPRK, and welcoming inscriptions in Russian and Korean. The red carpet has been laid out, and the pavilion for the orchestra and places for journalists have been prepared.
However, not only the square, but the entire capital “dressed up.” All Pyongyang streets are decorated with garlands of Russian and North Korean flags. The facades of several large skyscrapers have also been decorated with huge banners of national flags.
At the airport, guests from Russia are greeted by welcome banners in Russian and Korean, and on some sections of the road from the airport there are portraits of the Russian President.
In general, as Sputnik reported, the North Korean capital impresses with the neatness and cleanliness of the streets; trimmed trees grow along the roads, and figured flower beds are laid out.
