The move comes after the May 29 general election produced no clear winner, necessitating a government of national unity. On Friday, South Africa's National Assembly met for the first time since the general election. New lawmakers were sworn in and later re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa as the country's president.
After the African National Congress (ANC) lost its outright majority in the recent elections for the first time in three decades, President Cyril Ramaphosa will form an "inclusive" coalition cabinet, the party announced on Saturday.
Earlier this week, the ANC agreed to form a coalition government with the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Patriotic Alliance (PA), and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
The ANC emphasized its commitment to "set aside our political differences and find innovative ways to work together in the interest of our nation."

The formation of this coalition marks a significant shift in South African politics, with the party of Nelson Mandela losing its majority in parliament for the first time since the country's first democratic elections in 1994. The newly elected parliament includes a speaker from the ANC and a deputy speaker from the DA.
Ramaphosa will be sworn in on June 19. Congratulatory messages have poured in for the re-elected president, including from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who invited the leader of South Africa, a BRICS ally, to attend the group's upcoming summit in the Russian city of Kazan on October 22-24.
