MOSCOW (Sputnik) - US President Joe Biden said last Saturday that the United States would not stop helping Ukraine and its allies, adding that Europe would be threatened otherwise.
Ukrainian forces are already taking advantage of Washington's authorization to strike Russian territory with US weapons, and it "didn't make sense" not to allow them to do so, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Sunday.
"It simply didn't make sense not to allow the Ukrainians to fire across that border, to hit Russian guns and emplacements that were firing at the Ukrainians. So the president authorized that. The Ukrainians have carried out that authorization on the battlefield," Sullivan told CBS News.
The US administration previously authorized the Ukrainian forces to use the transferred weapons against targets in Russian territory adjacent to the Kharkov region, but left in place a ban on cross-border strikes using ATACMS missiles and other long-range firearms.
