CAR Considers Joining BRICS in Line With Multipolarity Policy, Prime Minister Says
14:39 10.06.2024 (Updated: 15:59 10.06.2024) The Prime Minister of the CAR, Felix Moloua, led the African country's delegation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 (SPIEF). In March, Moloua also visited Russia, where he met with members of the Russian government.
The Central African Republic is contemplating joining BRICS, the country's Prime Minister Felix Moloua said in
an interview with the Afrique Média broadcaster, commenting on the outcomes of the country's delegation's discussions at the SPIEF 2024.
"We are considering joining BRICS and are engaging in contacts in this regard," said the prime minister. "In CAR, economic policy direction is determined by the president, and the final decision on such a course rests with him. We are committed to the strategy of our head of state, which believes that multipolarity offers more development prospects for CAR."
Moloua stressed that the CAR and Russia's relations are "excellent, as evidenced by the personal contacts between the presidents."
"We are bound by ties of brotherhood and friendship," he said, adding that "bonds only get closer."
CAR is particularly interested in increasing "collaboration [with Russia] in sectors
like agriculture and energy," he went on to say.
"Thanks to the support of Russia, the security situation in CAR has significantly improved," he said.
The official noted that Russia has helped train security specialists, who are now successfully
combating armed groups trying to disrupt road communications. As a result, the possibility of free movement throughout the country has been restored, as Moloua emphasized.
