Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed a presidential decree on Saturday calling for the convening of the electorate ahead of the September presidential elections, according to a statement from the presidency.The same decree also mandates a review of the electoral lists, which will commence on June 12 and conclude on June 27, the statement read.According to the Algerian constitution, Tebboune may run for a second and final term after being elected in December 2019 for five years. However, the president hasn't yet publicly announced his intention to seek a second term.Algeria held presidential elections on December 12, 2019. Tebboune, a former prime minister and minister of housing, led his closest rival, Abdulkader Bengrina of the Islamist El Binaa party, by more than 40% of the valid votes cast in the first round of the election, according to the results.Tebboune, who is 78 years old, has worked for the Algerian government since 1969. Prior to being elected president in 2017, he served twice as Algeria's minister of housing.
