Despite challenging conditions, individuals with disabilities living in Niger's capital made their way to the streets from their neighborhoods to the rally site to express their support for the CNSP policies and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
A demonstration in support of the Nigerien National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) took place at Place de la Patrie on Saturday, located at the Francophone roundabout in capital Niamey, a Sputnik Africa correspondent reported from the site.
The event was organized by the Association of the Disabled and Youth of Koira tegui, who braved the scorching heat to participate.
Holding placards, they voiced their approval for the diversification of partners for security and the drive for real development in Niger. Slogans like "We support the efforts of the CNSP in the diversification of its partners for security" and "We support the AES" were prominently displayed.
Notably, several protestors carried placards opposing the American military presence in Africa, bearing messages such as “American bases away from our lands” and “Down with US colonization.” The rally resonated with a call for autonomy and sovereignty.
An organizer spoke to Sputnik Africa, emphasizing that the creation of the AES "represents a unique opportunity to strengthen ties" and promote peace and prosperity. He condemned defense deals with the United States, claiming they compromise Niger's "sovereignty and autonomy as an African nation."

"The creation of the Confederation of Sahel States represents a unique opportunity to strengthen our ties, to promote peace and prosperity for all our fellow citizens," he said. "We also express our strong opposition to defense agreements with the United States, which undermine our sovereignty and autonomy as an African nation. It is essential that we protect our national interests and defend our right to decide our own future without outside interference."

He went on to say that, "as conscious and committed citizens," those who gathered affirmed their support for the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland and "the initiative to create the Confederation of Sahel States."
