Not Only Israeli PM, But Country's Whole War Cabinet Should be Prosecuted, South African Expert Says
On Monday, arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the country's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and three Hamas leaders were requested by Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan.
Not only the Israeli prime minister, but the country's whole war cabinet should be prosecuted, Professor in Peace, Conflict and Security studies at the South African Thabo Mbeki African School of Public and International Affairs, Andreas 'Dries' Velthuizen, told Sputnik Africa.
Velthuizen commented on the
International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor's request for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu, the country's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and three Hamas leaders.
The expert called Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip "a
disproportionate reaction to a great audible attack from Hamas on Israel," which "can never serve as an excuse for a genocide," committed by Israel.
"This [leaves] no doubt in anybody's mind that this is genocide despite the fact that people are playing around with definitions," he highlighted.
In response to the Hamas-led attack against Israel on October 7, which, according to the Jewish state, killed over 1,100 Israelis, the country launched retaliatory
strikes on the Gaza Strip ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, and started a ground incursion into the Palestinian enclave. Over 35,600 people in the Gaza Strip died as a result of the escalation, according to local authorities.
