WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - On Friday, the Council of the EU decided to suspend the broadcasting activities of four more Russia-associated media outlets, namely Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta. Their staff will be allowed to do research and interviews in the EU.
The US Department of State has declined to comment on Sputnik's request for information regarding the possibility of introducing new restrictions against Russian media, similar to measures introduced by the European Union, redirecting the question to Brussels.
"I would refer you to the EU for this inquiry," the department's press office said when asked on whether Washington is studying new restrictive measures of the EU against Russian media and the prospects of a similar move in the foreseeable future.
The EU's new ban on broadcasting of several Russian media outlets will not take effect before June 25, as additional executive decisions are required, according to a new regulation.
