BEIJING (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping adopted on Thursday a joint statement on deepening the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.
Earlier this week, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that this is a detailed document – more than 30 pages, it will "highlight the special nature of our bilateral relations, outline further ways to develop the entire range of bilateral ties, and highlight the leading role of Russia and China in shaping a just and democratic world order."
Moreover, Russia and China have signed on Thursday a unified concept for the development of Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island.
The document was signed following the results of the Russian-Chinese negotiations. On the Russian side, the signature was put by Minister of Far East and Arctic Development Aleksey Chekunkov.
The joint statement of the leaders of Russia and China outlines long-term objectives for the development of the entire complex of relations between Moscow and Beijing, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.
"I would particularly like to note the joint statement we have adopted, which sets out new large-scale tasks and long-term guidelines for the development of the entire complex of Russian-Chinese relations," Putin said following a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
More statements made by Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping at the meeting:
Xi Jinping called Putin “his great friend” and congratulated him on assuming the Russian presidency, and noted that:
Relations between Russia and China have withstood the tests of a volatile international environment and have become a benchmark for relations between major powers;
The Chinese leader recalled that he had met Putin at least 40 times over the years;
China intends to be good neighbors, trusted friends, and reliable partners with Russia as always;
“We intend, as always, to be good neighbors, reliable partners and friends who trust each other with Russia, to consistently strengthen the centuries-old friendship between the two peoples, to jointly strive for multinational development and revival, and with common efforts to defend international equality and justice,” Xi said.
Vladimir Putin in return outlined that Russia and China have accumulated a significant baggage of practical cooperation:
Trade turnover between Russia and China in 2023 increased by a quarter and reached $227 bln;
China is Russia's main partner in the trade and economic sphere;

"Of course, our countries are determined to continue efforts to combine integration processes within the framework of the EAEU and the Chinese initiative 'One Belt, One Road' with an eye to forming a large Eurasian partnership in the future," Putin said.

According to the results of the last year, Russia took fourth place in the list of China's trade partner countries. The plan for the development of key areas of Russia-China economic cooperation until 2030 directly played a role in this;
Already, 90% of all payments between Russia and China are made in rubles and yuan, and the transfer of settlements into national currencies has given impetus to the expansion of trade flows;
Russia and China have formed a significant portfolio of 80 major joint investment projects in various fields;
We welcome cooperation with Chinese friends in the field of automobile production, where Chinese friends are achieving clear, completely obvious successes and advantages in the competition, fair competition. We welcome cooperation and will develop it further," Putin told reporters
There is no place for closed military-political alliances in the Asia-Pacific region; they are harmful and counterproductive;
President Putin also pointed that "Russians and Chinese are brothers forever".
