MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted a proposal to the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, on the appointment of Mikhail Mishustin as the country's prime minister.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to appoint Mikhail Mishustin as the country's prime minister, the Kremlin said on Friday.
"Russian President Putin signed a decree 'on the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation' […] In accordance with paragraph 'a' of Article 83 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, to appoint Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin as Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation," the Kremlin said in a statement.
Prior to that, the State Duma approved Mishustin as the prime minister during a plenary session on Friday.
"The State Duma [the lower house] of the Federal Assembly [the parliament] of the Russian Federation decides: 1. To approve Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin as the сhairman of the government of the Russian Federation. 2. To forward this resolution to the president of the Russian Federation. 3. This resolution comes into force from the date of its adoption," the State Duma’s draft resolution read.

Putin Proposes to Lower House to Appoint Mishustin as Russia's Prime Minister, Speaker States
After the appointment, Mishustin promised that the Russian government will make all efforts to implement initiatives mentioned in Putin’s latest address to the Federal Assembly and in the country’s new development goals.
"The government will make every effort to implement the initiatives that were mentioned in the president's address, as well as to achieve new, renewed development goals," Mishustin said during a plenary session of the State Duma.
Mishustin, who previously headed the country's tax service, was appointed prime minister for the first time in 2020. Thus, this is his second term in this government position.
Putin was sworn in as the Russian president in the Kremlin on Tuesday. After the inauguration, the Russian cabinet headed by Mishustin resigned in accordance with the law.
