MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Earlier in the day, Nigerian newspaper Punch reported, citing eyewitnesses, that the attackers had entered three lecture halls in the Confluence University of Science and Technology while the students were preparing for upcoming exams and shot into the air to scare them.
At least nine students were abducted in Nigeria by unidentified persons who invaded the Confluence University of Science and Technology in the central state of Kogi, the local government said on Friday.

"The Kogi State Government received very disturbing news at about 21.00 hrs [20:00 GMT], Thursday, May 9, 2024 that the Confluence University of Science and Technology was invaded by kidnappers … So far, nine students have been reported missing," the state government said.

It also vowed to rescue the students alive.
The security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated in recent years, with a number of security threats, ranging from the activities of Boko Haram and other extremist organizations to kidnappings for ransom and criminal looting.
