NIAMEY (Sputnik) - On Thursday, a US official told Sputnik that Russian forces are being housed on the same base in Niger but in a separate compound with no access to US forces until the withdrawal of the contingent of the United States from the country.
The US military in Niger has declared increased combat readiness after the deployment of Russian forces at the same military base, a Nigerien security source told Sputnik on Friday.

"The Russians are stationed at 101 airbase next to the Americans. There are also about 150 Italian military personnel and about 100 Germans stationed there," the source said.

The source added that the behavior of German and Italian servicepeople is calm despite the arrival of Russians.

"The Americans, on the other hand, have declared increased combat readiness, are constantly walking around in helmets and body armor and are extremely nervous," the source said.
