The report said that Ukraine's stronghold in Chasov Yar holds the keys to Russia's advance to the last large cities in the DPR under the control of Ukrainian forces. The general said it is probably a matter of time before that city falls. Skibitsky added that things for Ukraine now are as difficult as they have ever been since the beginning of Russia's special military operation in February 2022, and the situation can further deteriorate. The general said both the Russian and Ukrainian militaries are now fighting for "the most favorable position" ahead of potential talks but suggested that negotiations could only begin in the second half of 2025 at the earliest. The military official also said Russian troops have already won a tactical success in the village of Ocheretyne, where a recent Ukrainian troop rotation was bungled. Lt. Gen. Oleksandr Pavliuk, the commander of Ukraine's ground forces, assessing the situation of Ukrainian troops in Chasov Yar, told the British media on Thursday that Ukrainian forces "hope that the American weaponry will help us," adding that "we would not have lost the territories that we have lost in the last few months" if "it had arrived in time." He also said that Russian forces "have a ten-to-one ratio of artillery superiority there, and total air superiority." He added that air defenses and long-range artillery are Ukraine's priority weapons. Chasov Yar is located 15 kilometers (9 miles) west of the city of Bakhmut, also known as Artemovsk. The US Senate passed a $95 billion bill containing approximately $61 billion in Ukraine-related funding last week. US President Joe Biden has already signed the bill into law. The US Department of Defense later unveiled a $1 billion military aid package for Kiev, including cluster munitions and air defense supplies. Western countries have been providing military and financial aid to Kiev since the start of Russia's military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. The Kremlin has consistently warned against continued arms deliveries to Kiev, saying it would lead to further escalation of the conflict. In April 2022, Russia sent a diplomatic note to all NATO countries on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian officials have warned that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Moscow.

Fall of City of Chasov Yar Probably a Matter of Time, Ukraine's Deputy Intelligence Chief Says
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - It is probably a matter of time before the city of Chasov Yar, located in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and currently under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces, falls, Maj. Gen. Vadym Skibitsky, the deputy chief of Ukraine's military intelligence, has said in an interview with the British media.
The report said that Ukraine's stronghold in Chasov Yar holds the keys to Russia's advance to the last large cities in the DPR under the control of Ukrainian forces.
The general said it is probably a matter of time before that city falls.
"Not today or tomorrow, of course, but all depending on our reserves and supplies," he said.
Skibitsky added that things for Ukraine now are as difficult as they have ever been since the beginning of Russia's special military operation in February 2022, and the situation can further deteriorate.
The general said both the Russian and
Ukrainian militaries are now fighting for "the most favorable position" ahead of potential talks but suggested that negotiations could only begin in the second half of 2025 at the earliest.
The military official also said Russian troops have already won a tactical success in the village of Ocheretyne, where a recent Ukrainian troop rotation was bungled.
