The African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX) is Africa's center of excellence for leadership and the development of elite leaders for Africa's prosperity. It was established by the Ethiopian government in 2021 to provide leadership development, research and policy advice, and to nurture African leaders.
Ethiopia is dedicated to bolstering peace, development, and democracy across the African continent through the cultivation of effective leadership, Zadig Abraha, President of the African Leadership Excellence Academy, said, as quoted by local media.
Speaking at a gathering attended by ambassadors and diplomats from various African nations in Addis Ababa, Zadig Abraha underscored AFLEX's crucial role in nurturing competent leaders not only within Ethiopia but also throughout Africa.
Highlighting the academy's initiatives aimed at fostering capable leadership, he revealed that over the past two months alone, more than 120 leaders from African countries have undergone training at AFLEX.
The president emphasized Ethiopia's historical significance in promoting sustainable peace, development, and democracy in Africa, asserting that the nation's influence is further amplified through the promotion of efficient leadership practices.

Last week, AFLEX entered into a memorandum of understanding with the China Academy for International Business Officials, paving the way for greater collaboration on leadership development and allowing AFLEX to become a Chinese training base for Africans.
President Zadig Abraha said on the occasion that the agreement is instrumental in fostering knowledge exchange and experience sharing between the two institutions.
The African Leadership Academy was reconstituted by the Ethiopian government in June 2021. Prior to its reconstitution, it was the Meles Zenawi Leadership Academy, an institution that provided various training opportunities for national government leaders.
