MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with veteran construction workers of Russia's Baikal-Amur Mainline. The head of the country called the highway “the real road of the future” and noted that it largely determines global logistics for the entire 21st century.
Russia invites all those interested states to the North-South transport corridor project, President Vladimir Putin said.

"We are talking about the development of the North-South transport corridor. In fact, it connects the northern sea route with the Persian Gulf… The North-South transport corridor should become an example of the widest international cooperation, we are talking about the formation of new logistics routes in order to accelerate the economic and social development of the countries of Eurasia and the Global South. I want to emphasize once again that we invite all interested states to participate in this project," Putin said at a meeting with Russia's Baikal-Amur Mainline veterans.

The North-South international transport corridor (ITC) is a multimodal route from Russia's St. Petersburg to the port of Mumbai (India) with a length of 7,200 kilometers. There are three ITC routes: trans-Caspian (using railways and ports), as well as western and eastern (overland).
In May 2023, Russia and Iran signed documents on the completion of the last section of the railway on the western North-South route — Astara-Rasht-Qazvin in Iran.
