South African President and the African National Congress leader Cyril Ramaphosa told the local media that the ANC would emerge from the May elections as the country's preferred ruling party.Ramaphosa added that he is not concerned about other parties when asked about the emergence of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party and whether he feared that it would take votes away from the ANC in the province of KwaZulu Natal.He added that people in KwaZulu Natal "know the organization that has led them through struggle and has led development in this province and this country."The president also said that the ANC will win the May 29 elections thanks to the work of the party's volunteers.In early April, former South African President Jacob Zuma, who was chosen as the presidential candidate in this year's South African elections by the MK party, won an appeal against the Electoral Commission's decision to disqualify him as a candidate. The Electoral Commission cited a constitutional provision that says a person who has been sentenced to 12 months or more in prison cannot be elected for 5 years.In December 2023, the former president said he would support the uMkhonto We Sizwe party, named after the former paramilitary wing of the African National Congress during the apartheid struggle. The party declared Zuma its presidential candidate in early March.Supporters of the MK party warned that protests and disruptions of the vote would follow if its candidates were not allowed to run. South Africa's presidency urged citizens not to give in to attempts to destabilize the elections, warning that those who threaten the stability of the elections will face legal consequences.South Africa's general elections are to be held on May 29, when citizens will vote for a new National Assembly and provincial legislatures.

South African President and the African National Congress leader Cyril Ramaphosa told the local media that the ANC would emerge from the May elections as the country's preferred ruling party.
Ramaphosa added that he is not concerned about other parties when asked about the emergence of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party and whether he feared that it would take votes away from the ANC in the province of KwaZulu Natal.
"I am not worried about any about other party, I am absolutely confident that the ANC will emerge as the preferred governing party of this country," Ramaphosa pointed out.
