WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - As a bloody conflict in Sudan marked one year on Monday, the UK also imposed sanctions against two Sudanese companies and a bank over their support for the warring parties in the African country.
Ottawa has imposed sanctions on six people and entities for allegedly undermining the stability and security of Sudan, Global Affairs Canada announced on Monday.
"Canada is imposing sanctions on six individuals and entities for directly or indirectly undermining peace, security and stability in Sudan. Those sanctioned are associated with the SAF [Sudanese Armed Forces] or RSF [Rapid Support Forces], the main parties to the ongoing conflict," Global Affairs Canada said in a press release.
The sanctioned target Abdelrahim Hamdan Dagalo, Ali Karti, Al Junaid Multi Activities Co. Ltd., GSK Advance Company Ltd., Defense Industries System and Zadna International Company for Investment Ltd., the release said.
The ongoing conflict between the two sides has resulted in a grave breach of international peace and security and gross and systematic violations of human rights, with a devastating scale of violence and human suffering, the release said.
"Millions continue to face acute shortages of food, water, electricity and access to medical care," the release said.
Canada remains deeply concerned about reports of gender-based violence and ethnic cleansing, particularly by the RSF in Darfur, the release added.
