MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia's Orenburg region experienced flooding in early April due to meltwater, rising water levels in the Ural River and increased releases from the local reservoir. Moreover, last Friday, a dam protecting the city of Orsk from the Ural River burst, leading to mass evacuation. The second dam breach occurred the next day.
The situation in the flood-hit city of Orsk in Russia’s Orenburg Region is still difficult, however the floodwaters have gone down, the regional authorities said on Monday.

"The fight against flooding and its consequences continues in the Orenburg Region. The situation in Orsk is still difficult, although the flood water has gone down. A total of 6,987 residential houses have been flooded, 2,467 people (including 704 children) have been evacuated. Sixteen temporary accommodation sites have been set up, 1,455 people are accommodated in them, including 223 children," the authorities said on Telegram.
