TEHRAN (Sputnik) - On Sunday, Israel carried out airstrikes on the outskirts of Syria's Damascus, leaving two civilians injured, the Syrian state-run media reported, citing a military source.
The Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate general building in Syria’s Damascus on Monday killed a commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Mohammad Reza Zahedi, Iran’s Fars state-run news agency reported.
Zahedi was one of Iran's highest-ranking military officers, having previously served as commander of the IRGC ground forces.
The Israeli air force attack on the Iranian consulate general in Syria’s Damascus on Monday killed from five to seven people, Iranian ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari said.

"As a result of the Israeli attack, between 5 and 7 people were killed, we will announce the names and number of dead later," Akbari said, as quoted by Iran’s IRIB state-run broadcaster.

According to Tasnim news agency, the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate general building in Syria’s Damascus killed five people and injured 12 more.
