At least 11 people, including three children, have died in Madagascar as a result of Cyclone Gamane that hit the island nation on Wednesday, with the natural disaster affecting over 7,100 people, the Madagascar Tribune newspaper reported on Thursday, citing the local emergency authority. The cyclone that brought strong winds and pouring rains to the country's northern and eastern regions has also left two people injured and two missing, the report read. Most of the cyclone's victims reportedly drowned or were swept away by the waters. The floods have also caused significant damage to the region's infrastructure, with the area becoming isolated due to severed roads and collapsed bridges, the newspaper added. The country's authorities are evacuating residents of the affected areas and delivering humanitarian aid, the newspaper reported, adding that the country's armed forces and the interior ministry were also involved in rescue operations.
