TUNIS (Sputnik) - Algeria will hold its next presidential election on September 7 of this year, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s office said on Thursday, which is three months ahead of schedule.
Tebboune held a meeting dedicated to the upcoming presidential election on Thursday, according to the office.

"It was decided to hold early presidential elections, and its date is set for Saturday, September 7, 2024," the office said in a statement.

The incumbent president was elected in December 2019 for a five-year tenure and is eligible to seek re-election for a second and final term, according to the Algerian constitution. However, he has yet to formally declare his candidacy.
