MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto wins the presidential election in the country, the Indonesian General Elections Commission said on Wednesday. The Indonesian presidential election lasted six hours and ended on February 14. Independent organizations confirmed that Subianto was leading by a wide margin.
The current Defense Minister won in 36 of the 38 provinces of Indonesia, as well as abroad and his inauguration will take place on October 20, the General Elections Commission said.
Later in the day, former Indonesian Minister of Culture and Education Anies Baswedan, who came second in the election, said he would challenge the election's results in the country's constitutional court. He added that the presidential election had revealed "as many deviations, flaws, omissions and unnatural processes" as had "never been seen before" in the Indonesian history.
"We are not taking the step to anger and agitate the public, but to gather all the evidence," Baswedan said in a video address.
Subianto received 58.6% of the vote at the presidential election, winning in the first tour, according to the commission. Baswedan received 24.9% of the vote, while the ex-governor of Central Java Province, Ganjar Pranowo, ranked third with 16.5% of the vote.

Meanwhile, Subianto said, addressing his supporters following the publication of the vote results, that his government would leave the days of the imperialists and colonizers' rule behind.

"We do not want to dance to someone else's drum anymore. For hundreds of years, we were divided by imperialists and colonizers. Now, Indonesia is united, and Indonesia is strong. Indonesia now wants to work for the united Indonesian people, and not for someone else, my brothers and sisters [...] The mandate of the Indonesian people is in our hands, and we will be the Indonesian people's president and vice president," Subianto said.

The president-elect also expressed his gratitude to the country's former leader Joko Widodo, thanking him for support and inspiration.
"Give us a chance, and we will prove that we will be president and vice president of a hard-working government," Subianto added.
Thanking his supporters, the president-elect chanted with them the "Independence!" slogan, which symbolized Indonesia’s struggle to gain its own statehood in colonial times.
