Russia is preparing to mass produce a new civil aircraft using hybrid technologies, the head of Strength Complex within the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, Mikhail Zichenkov, told the "Scientific Russia" agency. The MC-21 could become a 100% made-in-Russia model, as all imported materials will be replaced by Russian equivalents, he said.According to him, static tests for this type of aircraft simulate more than 200 emergency situations to ensure a sufficient level of safety. The medium-haul aircraft is still in the testing phase but could be integrated into the fleets of Russian companies next year, Zichenkov said. It's projected that civil aviation could benefit from hybrid technologies as they increase efficiency, reduce emissions, improve reliability, and support sustainability goals.

Russia Preparing to Mass Produce New Civil Aircraft Using Hybrid Technologies, Academic Says
Hybrid technologies are a cutting-edge development in the aviation industry, combining traditional fossil fuel power with electric propulsion systems. This approach aims to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact, addressing concerns about climate change and sustainability.
Russia is preparing to mass produce a new civil
aircraft using hybrid technologies, the head of Strength Complex within the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, Mikhail Zichenkov, told the "Scientific Russia" agency.
The MC-21 could become a 100% made-in-Russia model, as all imported materials will be replaced by Russian equivalents, he said.
"We believe that the elements made of Russian materials are not inferior to their imported counterparts, and in some cases - for example, in the case of the wings and empennage of the aircraft - they are superior to them," Zichenkov added.
According to him, static tests for this type of aircraft simulate more than 200 emergency situations to ensure a sufficient
level of safety.
