The voting in this election will last three days: March 15, 16 and 17. Four candidates registered by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation are vying for the post of head of state: Leonid Slutsky, Nikolai Kharitonov, Vladislav Davankov and Vladimir Putin, who runs on his own platform.
On Friday, voting to elect the next president of Russia started and will last three days until March 17.
The 2024 election is the first to introduce a multiple-day voting for president in Russia. The Russian Central Election Commission has received over 33 billion rubles (more than $360 million) to arrange the preparations and holding of the presidential election.
More than 94,000 polling stations will be open on voting days for the Russian presidential election, and 295 polling stations in 144 countries will be open abroad.
The total number of polling stations abroad is significantly lower than in the 2018 election, due to the closure of 26 Russian foreign missions in "unfriendly" countries and the reduction of staff at embassies and consulates due to the mass expulsion of Russian diplomats.
