A month ago, South African singer Tyla, whose real name is Tyla Laura Seethal, won a Grammy Award in the Best African Music Performance category and thus became the first winner in this new award category.
Tyla, a prominent South African music artist, decided to cancel her much-anticipated first global tour, which was scheduled to begin in two weeks, due to an injury, the singer
said on Instagram*.
"For the past year I've been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened," she said. "I've seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonizing, as has the severity of the situation."
Tyla, the winner of a
Grammy Award last month for her immensely popular song "Water," planned to start her tour on March 21 in Oslo, the capital of Norway.
However, the 22-year-old said in the post that "continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety," adding that she was "absolutely heartbroken" to deliver such news to her fans.
According to US media reports, the injury has compelled her to abandon her scheduled April performance at the Coachella
music festival.
The musician added that all the tickets for the concerts in North America will be refunded, while her tour dates in the UK and Europe will be rescheduled.
Tyla, despite her young age, is already a star in her home country, having been nominated for two South African music awards.
In 2023, she reached unprecedented musical heights. With her single "Water" she became the first South African solo artist in 55 years to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
