On Monday, US Special Envoy Amos Hochstein arrived in Beirut for indirect talks between Lebanon and Israel. The caretaker prime minister added that Israel must stop its actions in southern Lebanon. Millions of Muslims around the world will begin a month of celebration around March 10, which will continue throughout April 9. Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah has been exchanging airstrikes with Israel since October 2023, as the situation in the region deteriorated dramatically after Israel announced a military operation against Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a large-scale rocket attack against Israel from Gaza and breached the border, killing 1,200 people and abducting around 240 others. Israel launched retaliatory strikes, ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, and started a ground incursion into the Palestinian enclave with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing the hostages. At least 30,600 people have been killed so far in the Gaza Strip, local authorities said. On November 24, Qatar mediated a deal between Israel and Hamas on a temporary truce and the exchange of some of the prisoners and hostages, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire was extended several times and expired on December 1. More than 100 hostages are still believed to be held by Hamas in Gaza.

Lebanon-Israel De-Escalation Talks Could Begin During Ramadan, Caretaker Prime Minister Says
CAIRO (Sputnik) - De-escalation talks to end hostilities along the Lebanese-Israeli border could begin during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has said.
On Monday, US Special Envoy Amos Hochstein arrived in Beirut
for indirect talks between Lebanon and Israel.
"I hope, there will be a [ceasefire] agreement in the Gaza Strip. The information indicates that it will go into effect in Gaza before Ramadan. And we will have talks during the month of Ramadan," Mikati told Lebanese broadcaster Al Jadeed on Tuesday.
The caretaker prime minister added that Israel must stop its actions in southern Lebanon.
Millions of Muslims around the world will begin a month of celebration around March 10, which will continue throughout April 9.
