MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The parliament of Ghana has passed a controversial bill imposing criminal liability on people identifying them as LGBTQ* and those involved in the promotion of LGBTQ rights.
Under the bill on "Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values," also unofficially known as the anti-LGBTQ bill, those engaged in sex with people of the same sex face five years imprisonment instead of the three years under previous legislation.
Meanwhile, the "propaganda" of LGBTQ rights and the financing of relevant activities could be punished with three to five years in jail.
To enter into force, the bill must be signed into law by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo.
