The robust bilateral relationship between Zimbabwe and Belarus has witnessed significant growth following a series of high-level engagements and bilateral agreements between Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
Last year saw bilateral trade between Zimbabwe and Belarus increasing by eightfold, said Zimbabwean Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Frederick Shava, during a joint ministerial meeting in Harare on Thursday.
The growth in trade could be attributed to the pivotal role of the diplomatic interactions between the two nations, according to Minister Shava.
"The excellent bilateral relations that exist between Zimbabwe and Belarus have continued to grow at an exponential rate as illustrated by the frequent exchange of high-level visits and continuous engagements by our two Presidents in forums, the most recent being the meeting between our two Presidents on the sidelines of COP 28 that was held in Dubai in December 2023," the minister said.
Minister Shava, addressing delegates at the Zimbabwe-Belarus Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC), underscored the substantial progress made through the signing of multiple new memorandums of understanding, agreements, and commercial contracts between the countries.
