MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Brazil to attend the G20 Council of Foreign Ministers gathering, planning to hold meetings with counterparts from South Africa, Egypt, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, and Turkey.
Russia, as a chair of BRICS in 2024, plans to establish a close partnership with the G20 to strengthen the voice of the Global South and East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
"As the chair of BRICS in 2024, Russia plans to establish a close partnership with the Group of Twenty to achieve a cumulative effect and further strengthen the voice of the Global South and East in leading multilateral structures," the ministry said in a statement on the website.
Russia has assumed the chairmanship of the BRICS group of countries in 2024. The theme of the chairmanship is "Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security."
