MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Pakistan hopes for accelerated consideration of its application to join BRICS, chairman of the defense committee of the Senate of Pakistan, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, told Sputnik, adding that Pakistan's presence in BRICS will strengthen the bloc.
In November 2023, Pakistan submitted an official request to join BRICS. Islamabad also noted that it hopes for Moscow’s assistance on the issue.

"We are hopeful that the Russian side will have a good consideration of our application. Currently, we are standing in the queue of the countries that have also applied," Sayed said.

He noted that "But given that we have good relationships with Russia and China, and we are also a member of SCO, perhaps the application could be fast-tracked. Pakistan's presence in BRICS would add strength to BRICS."
He also added that BRICS is not only a strategic alliance but also the "embodiment of the Global South."
