The Sudanese army announced an advance in Omdurman, the second largest city after the capital Khartoum, as its troops broke the siege of the engineering corps in the south of the city for the first time since clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began in April last year.In a celebratory telegram, Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Mohamed Osman Al-Hussein hailed the achievement as an "important victory" and a "difficult stage overcome." The Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited the north of the city, where he was briefed on the progress of the operations and praised the forces for their achievements on the ground, the army said in a statement.He also vowed to continue the fight against the RSF until they are "completely defeated," and urged the paramilitary elements to evacuate the states of Al-Jazirah and Khartoum states, as well as other states in western and southern Sudan.In October 2023, the parties, who had been clashing since April 2023, resumed negotiations, mediated by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, but hostilities in the country continue. The Sudanese army announced an advance in Omdurman, the second largest city after the capital Khartoum, as its troops broke the siege of the engineering corps in the south of the city for the first time since clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began in April last year.
