Alexey Navalny has died in correctional colony No. 3 in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Russia's regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service announced on Friday.
"On February 16, in correctional colony No. 3, convict Navalny A.A. felt unwell after a walk and almost immediately lost consciousness. Medical staff of the institution immediately arrived, an ambulance brigade was called," the department said in a statement.
The statement added: "All necessary resuscitation measures were taken, but without positive results. Ambulance doctors pronounced the prisoner dead. The cause of death is under investigation."
