Senegalese President Macky Sall's recent announcement to delay the elections originally planned for the end of February resulted in demonstrations in the capital, during which at least three individuals reportedly lost their lives.
Washington fears to see Senegal shake off the West's grip and turn to Moscow and Beijing, a French pan-Africanist of Beninese origin, Amzat Boukari-Yabara, told Sputnik Africa.
The White House and Brussels have done nothing to prevent the current crisis in the West African country, he noted.

Senegalese President Calls for Peace Process Amid Protests Over Postponed Elections
According to Amzat Boukari-Yabara, the United States is currently trying to "identify its interests in this political conflict" in order to "put itself in charge at the level of Senegal."
As for France, "it does not have much to offer Africa today in terms of vision, in terms of project, in terms of model," the historian and writer said.
He thus called for a solution to the issue of Paris' military presence in Senegal, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Chad and Djibouti. France must understand that it must withdraw from its former colonies militarily, monetarily and, in a certain way, politically and diplomatically, he concluded.
In late January, it was reported that France would significantly reduce its military contingents in Gabon, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire, following a decision taken by the country's president Emmanuel Macron, in December.
