White House After Biden Confuses El-Sisi With Mexican Leader Says 'It Happens'
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - On Friday, US President Joe Biden claimed he convinced his Mexican counterpart to "open the gate" of the crossing between Egypt and Gaza, while he was actually referring to Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The White House press secretary said on Friday "it happens" when she commented on President Joe Biden mixing up the names of leaders of
Egypt and Mexico and pointed to House Speaker Mike Johnson's recent slipup.
"It happens, it truly, truly happens," Karine Jean-Pierre told a briefing, when asked about concerns regarding the president's memory.
Jean-Pierre said that "many of us" misspeak and cited the example of Speaker Johnson's recent statement on TV where he said he supports Iran when he meant to say he supports Israel.
On Thursday, US Special Counsel Robert Hur released a report on his investigation into Biden’s mishandling of
classified documents, in which he cited several instances of Biden forgetting key dates in his life and career.
Following the release of the report, Biden delivered a speech arguing that his memory is "fine" but subsequently mixed up Egyptian President Abdel Fattah
El-Sisi with the leader of Mexico.
