A gas explosion sparked a massive fire in the Embakasi district of Nairobi on Friday, killing three people and injuring nearly 300, according to local authorities. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but the authorities said it involved a gas leak or a faulty valve.
The explosion occurred around 10 pm local time, when a truck carrying gas exploded in its parking yard near a residential area. The fire spread to several nearby buildings and vehicles, causing extensive damage and panic among residents.
Witnesses described hearing a loud bang and seeing a huge fireball in the sky. Some said they felt the ground shake and the windows shatter. Many people ran out of their homes and businesses, while others tried to help the victims and extinguish the flames.
Firefighters, police, and paramedics rushed to the scene and battled the blaze for hours. They evacuated the area and cordoned off the roads. They also transported the injured to various hospitals, where some were reported to be in critical condition.
